Voters and Candidates’ Religion: Why They Really Don’t Care.

By Jerry Norman

Religion and politics don’t mix, they say. But of course they do. Especially in political seasons. That’s ’cause all the politicians gotta say, they think, what all the religious people out there wanna hear about said politicians’ religious views. But they really don’t care. Media just makes out that they do cause it’s spicier that way. And we aren’t about reporting news, we’re about making our reporting spicy and more inciting.

It’s all a game and politicians and media have their parts to play. Meanwhile folks out there in the hinterlands don’t care about Romney’s Mormonism, or Obama’s pastor problems. And Catholics go along with their Bishop’s on the religious liberty thing, but not enough to change their votes because of it. That’s according to the Pew Forum, the people who do gobs of research on what people believe. And the fact that they don’t necessarily do anything about it. Now who’s surprised, anybody?

And all that big stupid deal about Democrats doing a big switcharoo on God and Jerusalem in their platform? Nothing but a joke that’ll fade away. But from all the blowing on Fox News, you’d think it was the big thing that’s gonna take Obama down.

Fact is, people talk a lot more about their religion than they do about it. Maybe that’s because they sense that their leaders, religious and political do the same. And make a good living at it.
